I gave birth to twin girls at 29 weeks. One of the twins was admitted by Linda Bishop and instant the connection between us and I felt as if everything was going to be okay. Linda Bishop explained what all the machines were for and how to read the monitors. She suggested I not be alarmed by all of the noises and to focus on the baby instead. She showed me how to wrap her in the blanket, hold her, and change her diaper. She made me feel like a mother in such an awkward situation. Shortly after we were admitted, Linda took a scheduled leave of two weeks. We were anxious for her to return. And when she did return, she showed so much genuine concern and interest in my girls. She really made our family feel special. She was always on top of things, making suggestions to further their progress. One of the twins had two brain surgeries while in the Special Care Nursery. Linda Bishop took special care and stayed by our side and calmly talked us through this traumatic time. She always had words of encouragement and eager to answer any question. She also cared for the other twin girl. The last month she made every effort to follow the girls down the line from the Unit to intermediate. She was always observant of every little detail; from watching their monitors, to giving them a blanket, to pointing out faces and grunts characteristics of each girl. Ms. Bishop was always patient with us, listening to our concerns and helping any way she could. She told me I could call anytime of the night, as many times as I wanted, and she never made me feel foolish when I did just that. Overall, we were in the Special Care Nursery for 72 days. We had many good experiences, a few not so good, but we feel Ms. Bishop's caring nature was definitely a component in our managing to make it through each day. I have come to realized how one nurse can make sure a difference in the lives of the family members of your patients. We feel so privileged to have experienced the gentle care of Ms. Bishop. I know that she must have this effect on many families and you are fortunate to have such a wonderful nurse on your staff.
