Li or Miss Li as she is known on our unit, is the definition of passion when it comes to nursing. If you work on 3-South, then chances are that Li was someone who helped train you as a new nurse/new hire. Her ability and willingness to teach people how to care for others in the nursing field can only come from someone who is passionate about patients and nursing.
One of my earliest moments, since I started working on 3-South, was during my orientation period with Li and there was a code called on the other side of the unit. being a new grad, I could only watch as the team worked on a patient. As I watched, I noticed how Li lead the code and cared for the patient. This was not Li's patient and she did not know much about him but I could see how much she cared. She even helped transfer the patient to the ICU. You have to have a lot of empathy for patients to do what she did that day and does every day.
Since Li is one of our veteran Nursing Preceptors for new nurses/hires, then chances are you have come to Li after your orientation many times with questions and the need for assistance. Li always helps when she is asked and she is very nice when she does it. She is never too busy to lend a helping hand or teach you something new. 3-South is grateful for Li.
An admirable attribute that Li has is that she is someone anyone can get along with. I have never heard Li say anything bad about anyone. I have never heard her complain about the workload no matter how difficult the day is. She encourages people rather than puts them down. She teaches rather than judges.
Li has been working as a nurse for a long time. Many people dream about the day they can retire, but not Li. She does not need to work but she continues to because she loves what she does.
Li shows selflessness by always being there for her unit. No job is too big for Li. She will be administrating drugs in a code one minute and cleaning a patient by herself the next. She is the definition of selflessness.
