While I was a patient who had a heart attack and several other breathing issues and heart problems; Ms. Hickey could see that I was a deer in headlights. Anyone can see and notice that look, but it takes a special person to do something about it. She could tell I was really lost and scared, and then, the special part started. I was total stranger and I was just one of her patients for the shift. In my time there, Ms. Hickey, from shift one made me feel that I was worth her time. I was worth the effort, that she cared and that I mattered. This time in my life could have been the very real end. She made me feel that I really had hope. Ms. Hickey in her professionalism was humane and kind. Her smile, her efforts to make me believe I had a shot at getting out of here. For me, this was the most difficult time of my life, and it looked like it was coming to an end very, very fast. She didn't know at the time, but I was desperately searching for something that would let my hope have just a little more time to grow. That was when I saw Ms. Hickey's eyes. What reflected back to me was hope, belief, care, you matter, hold on, you fight; all of this without saying a word at the time. Baptist should be very thankful you have her on your team, especially in ICU. Thank you so much.
