A few mornings back, I awoke and found myself overwhelmed with thoughts of not being sick enough for treatment and feeling as though I needed to go home. This caused a panic attack. I asked LeeAnn, who was my nurse that morning, to call my mom as I was ready to breakdown and beg her to bring me home. Instead of simply agreeing and giving me a phone, LeeAnn asked if everything was alright. In my panicked state, I was unable to produce a believable lie and simply told her of my extreme anxiety and what was causing it. She then agreed to let me call my mom but before giving me the phone, she brought me back to my room. She then proceeded to give me one of the most reassuring talks I've ever been given.
She provided not only medical facts but her own experiences to help me see that the thoughts I was having were not true. She took the time to sit down with me and truly help me see the truth and really allow myself to come out of the panic. I've never felt more loved and cared for by a nurse as I did when LeeAnn had that talk with me.
