Each quarter Adventist Health Portland presents the DAISY Award to an extraordinary nurse. For demonstrating our mission to live God's love by inspiring health, wholeness, and hope. Lauren Lamina, RN, is our latest recipient. Her care and compassion, commitment to excellence, and willingness to do whatever is needed to help our patients and team members make this critical care float nurse stand out.
"She cares for her patients and promotes teamwork."
During a recent shift, nurse leaders were impressed with Lauren's skills and spirit during several challenging situations. Throughout her day Lauren spent time on four different units, helping manage high patient volume and providing coverage for breaks and meals. When one of her patients needed a higher level of care Lauren sprang into action, coordinating a transfer.
Lauren also supported team members during a code grey. Lauren has been a nurse for seven years, and at Adventist Health Portland Medical Center for a year and a half. "Growing up my little brother was sick," says Lauren. "Watching the nurses care for him and our family inspired me to become a nurse." Working as a float gives Lauren the chance to follow patients throughout the care process and work with many of our teams. Two favorite parts of her job. "I love working with all the staff and getting the chance to help out wherever I'm needed," she says. "It's also very rewarding to go into different units and see patients I know as they move through the care process."
