My stay at Queens was centered around a major spinal operation to allow me to walk again. Before this, I had been advised I had terminal cancer. The hope to walk tall again and take on a final phase of my life was worth the high-risk procedure. Throughout the Queens process, I could not have hoped for better nursing care.
The plan was to move me to Derby Hospital for rehab and oncology care, so I was moved from HDU to ENT as a holding point awaiting move-in the queue. After days of waiting in a very caring ward, I realized it was not going to happen.
I reached a point when I dropped into the abyss of despair and decided to ''walkout'' of the system, mentally it could not have got any worse. At this point, an Angel of Hope came to my side and in a few moments gave me assurance that I had done the right thing. It is this person who went outside her job role as a nurse and as a human being worked magic on my soul.
I would like to thank Lauren from the bottom of my heart as without her I would have been in another terrible world. Looking forward I am now at home and learning the art firstly of walking as a child!
