Picking one specific story or situation is very hard when it comes to Laura Walton making a difference. I can't put into words how caring she is to every single patient she comes in contact with. She makes sure to take her time connecting with each patient, knowing it truly makes a difference in their stay. She advocates for her patients as if they were her own family. Taking care of patients isn't just her job, it's something she truly loves to do and it shows. I absolutely love working with Laura because she is such a team player. She is always asking for ways she can help out, even when she is busy herself. She goes above and beyond, all the time.
During COVID, she spent time with a family over FaceTime so they could talk to their loved ones. Not only did she do that during COVID, but she also set time aside to spend time in a room with a patient who felt lonely. Laura made a comment stating how we may feel like we got the short end of the stick as healthcare workers during this time, but the patients may feel even worse than that. She always puts them first and thinks about how they may feel.
If a patient is a Q2 turn, she does a wonderful job keeping up with them so further skin breakdown does not occur. If a patient needs help eating, she will take her time to feed them snacks during the night if they are able to have it. She builds relationships with all her patients and coworkers. Laura is the definition of a compassionate, caring nurse.
