... On Wednesday, January the 7th, my uncle was brought to the emergency room by ambulance unresponsive but stable. Laura was his nurse from approximately 8:45 AM when he arrived until 7:00 PM that day which was the end of her shift.

Laura was beyond wonderful! She gave him the absolute best care possible. She was kind, caring, respectful, empathetic, honest and all around a pleasure to have around us - his family. She is truly in the right profession!

Even with the prognosis being very slim that he would make it past 48 hours, Laura kept our minds at ease by doing everything in her power to keep my uncle happy. She was the bright light in the very dark time we were sharing. She brought him in warm blankets, socks, and drinks for our family, and asked if there was anything she could get any of us.

Laura made sure she explained everything to us that was happening in detail. Before she gave him any medications, she would come in and explain what the medication was and what it would do for him. She also shared her own personal story about having an ill family member.

Laura was there when the doctor came in, closed the door and told us the CT scans came back showing a massive brain bleed. He gave us the option of having him transported to St. Joseph's to see a Neurosurgeon. We ended up sending the CT scans over to the Neurosurgeon at St Joseph's and were told he had a 1 to 2% chance of living through this and they did not recommend surgery. At that point we made the decision to keep him here at Winter Haven for comfort care. My uncle's condition ending up declining and eventually he ended up passing away later on that night, but Laura made it easier for us to deal with.
