We were at Children's Hospital in St. Paul, MN for 10 days to treat our daughter's disease ADEM. She spent 4 nights in PICU and that's where we met nurse Laura. She had all or more features that a great nurse should have...not only knowledge and skill as a nurse, but also compassion, love, a smile, empathy, and respect towards others. Our daughter could not walk at the time and that was very scary for all of us. Our daughter was very active and athletic before ADEM attack. Laura would just listen to our voices and tried to accommodate us through this difficult time in the PICU. Her voice was always calm and never made us feel uncomfortable even though you have no privacy in the PICU. I don't know how she does it, but we requested her service as long as we were in the PICU. She would carefully observe us and offer services that we would appreciate. For example, she would bring a bottle of lavender essential oil so we can massage our daughter's feet with a calming scent. Nobody wants to end up in the PICU with your little one, but we were so blessed to meet Ms. Laura and all the other nurses in the PICU. I want her children to know that their mom is a real hero in the real world. We truly appreciate the care she provided us.
