Laura was my nurse when I went into labor to have my first child. From the minute met her I knew I was in good hands and that I would be taken care of. Little did I know that Laura would not only take care of me, but she would also be a part of the team that ultimately saved my life.
When I first arrived at the hospital, I was extremely nervous, as this was my first child, but she kept me calm and told me exactly what was going to be happening. My water broke and labor quickly started progressing. Laura had to start a Pitocin drip and made sure that anesthesia was contacted to have my epidural placed quickly as the Pitocin really enhanced my contractions and they were getting unbearable. She was there for me throughout the entire labor process and I think she only left my room a handful of times to get supplies.
When I started pushing, I remember her being on my left side cheering me on the whole way. Laura advocated for me to the doctor saying, "she can do this" and that I did not need an episiotomy or a C-section. She cheered me on the whole way through.
A couple of hours after giving birth Laura was the one that realized I was massively hemorrhaging and convinced the doctor to come into my room. The next thing I know I have having emergency surgery because I lost 2 liters of blood in that timeframe. Laura was there for me this entire time and I don't know if I would have been as calm as I was without her. She also was there for my husband, my newborn baby, and my family as they were extremely worried about what would happen to me. Laura is an amazing person and is fantastic at her job. I am so happy to have met her.
