Laura Billings is an excellent model for patient centered care. She was kind, patient and understands in caring for my 78 year old mother. My mother is a stoic farm wife who was in severe pain. Laura had sympathy and understands the challenges facing my mother as my mother was dealing with her pain and frustrating lack of mobility.

Laura coordinated care with the other health team members. When I voiced a concern that my mother was unable to reach a "real person" by telephone with the numbers given to her at discharge, Laura investigated and called the numbers herself and found that, yes indeed, clinic patients were unable to contact their provider in a timely fashion. Laura then apologized to my mother for the delay in communication and took steps to ensure that the clinic wide communication problem was resolved.

Laura came to see my mother at time of discharge on day of surgery. It was late in the day, but Laura made a point to come, see my mother and make sure mother and dad understood discharge instructions. Once discharged, we encountered difficulty getting mother's prescription pain medication filled. Once again, Laura came to the rescue returning the page immediately and solving the pain medication prescription woes. Mother was able to get her prescription filled on our way out of the hospital.

Laura took a genuine, vested interest in my mother and father, "smoothing out the wrinkles" gently and with compassion. My father sets extremely high standards for those who care for my mother. He said to me, "boy that Laura--she is really something. So nice and she takes care of everything!"

Thanks you Laura Billings for showing compassion, patience and exemplary nursing care. We are very grateful for your kindness.
