My wife and I had our baby at Aurora Sinai Medical Center. There are many people we would like to thank for their service to us in helping my wife through labor, delivery, and recovery, but we wanted to particularly commend one person, in particular, our nurse during labor, LaSundra Beard.
After long and painful back labor that Sunday, my wife had an epidural and was finally able to carry on a conversation that was not wholly centered on how she was dealing with her pain and we started asking questions of LaSundra. The lessons we got about the devices in the delivery room and the delivery process yet to come were remarkable. Four of us in the room were fairly well-educated; my wife is a UWSMPH medical student, I have a background in Medical Anthropology and one of our friends was a Biomedical Engineer, the other a Psychology Ph.D. student. But, LaSundra"read her audience" well and explained things far beyond the basics that we'd learned in pre-natal classes. She did, of course, all the other preparatory things that she had to and gave what I imagine were the usual pre-delivery comforts to my wife, but it was the detail that she went into to explain how contractions were monitored, etc., that really impressed us.
