As first-time parents, we did our best to prepare for the "big day" but when we found out I needed to be induced three weeks early, we had so many questions and uncertainties. We went to Butterworth on a Monday night to start my labor induction and Krysta was our nurse starting Tuesday morning. I was her only patient that day and although she could have spent it socializing with other nurses, she spent many hours with us. She answered all of our questions and concerns and shared her own stories as a parent. My labor was slow to start and I didn't go into active labor until 7:00 pm Tuesday night. Instead of going home, Krysta received permission to stay past her shift to see the birth through. Krysta and the physician were like cheerleaders during the birthing process. I was blown away by the labor and delivery team. It honestly made me proud to be a Spectrum Health employee. Before going home, she asked another nurse to grab me dinner because she knew the dining order service would be closed and I would be very hungry after a long night and day of child birthing. Krysta stayed with us for 16 hours that day and it was her BIRTHDAY (we found out from another nurse on the unit). Our daughter now shares a birthday with a very special nurse.
