Kristin Nilsen recently went out of her way to help the Medicine Room out. The Medicine Room has been short-staffed as we transitioned into the new night positions, and we hired new staff to fill old positions. Kristin has maintained a very positive attitude throughout all of this. Kristin recently came in on her day off to help decorate the Medicine Room for Halloween because there was not a lot of time or staff to decorate it for the children. Kristin worked for five hours on decorating.
The very next day, Halloween, Kristin came to work all dressed up, ready to be in a good spirit for the kids. This was an extremely busy day for the Medicine Room. Kirstin worked so hard all day long, it was very short-staffed and she at one point had six patients all by herself. Usually the maximum number a nurse takes is four. Kristin also took care of a very critical patient! Kristin came to work at 11:00 am and did not take a break until 7:00 pm. One of her patients even received a DLI infusion. Kristin stayed until 1:00 am charting and catching up on all of her work from the day. We asked her if she wanted to call the coordinator to tell them she would be a little late the next day because she was due back to work another 12 hour shift. Kristin’s reply was, “No, I am supposed to precept a new nurse. I do not want her to wonder where I am, and we will be short-staffed so I do not want her to get a bad impression of the Medicine Room.” Wow! The next day, Kristin was back with all smiles and ready to roll!
Thanks, Kristin, for your sweet spirit and for being an amazing co-worker who is not afraid to go the extra mile!! You deserve a dozen daisies!
