I am the son of the patient DV. My mom was terminal cancer. She has had cancer for three years. I have been to numerous hospitals and have met many doctors and nurses and I have never been as pleased as I was with Nurse Kristie. This is a remarkable young lady.

Nurse Kristie was remarkable and she was always just a call away. If my mom ever needed assistance, that lady was happy to be there. On June 25, 2011, early in the morning, my mom had a fever and it was a very scary time because we really knew she wasn’t doing well. But I credit everything to Kristie; she was on top of it very well. She made sure my mom was comfortable and pushed antibiotics very well. My family and I really credit Nurse Kristie for the reason we still have more time with my mom.

Although my mom’s cancer is terminal and we know that sooner or later mom won’t be with us anymore. I credit Kristie with giving me more time with my mom. So when I saw this nomination form and I thought Kristie is the best example that fits this and is the most deserving person that I know. I think she is an extraordinary nurse and UNMC is lucky to have her.

And I would like to conclude my nomination by saying that when Nurse Kristie left the room, my mom told me to shut the door and gave us another of mom’s life lessons. And she said, that she hopes someday in our future jobs that we will be as good as Kristie is and care for people like she did.

Thank you so much Nurse Kristie!
