My husband was in so much pain after his second Discectomy in Nov. 2015 at HFM. (His 1st was Sept. 2014.) Since November's surgery he had excessive fluid draining and had 3 holes that weren't healing. To find out his body was rejecting the internal sutures. Brock was so frustrated, in physical pain, couldn't function like normal around our 3 and 4 year old little ones, and couldn't work. All of a sudden we had heard a pop and grind once again by Dec. 4th 2015. He screeched and couldn't even move an inch. We looked at one another and knew his S1-L5 lower lumber blew out again! He didn't want to face what was to come next (Fusion) so he wouldn't admit he needed medical attention again. He couldn't walk without popping and grinding, he had "lightning pain" down both legs, his lower extremities wouldn't function, and they would all of a sudden lock up or just give out. It was dangerous for him to be alone, especially with little ones. Finally, I took my husband to the ER in early January 2016.
Koral Curkeet was his nurse from beginning to end. She showed him deep concern, compassion and understanding. She listened to him. Koral held his hand and said "I know you're hurting, I'll make sure you're taken care of." Then she put the IV in. She explained in clear detail what was happening and what was to come. We had explained that we knew he had to have a Fusion for the S1-L5 LL, and by what she could see of Brock's history with HFM, she made us feel comfortable with what was to lie ahead of us; another MRI, X-ray, etc. Just for validation. She understood how frustrated we both were at this point and how it felt that the other two surgeries were a waste of time, emotional ups and downs, put us in financial distress and then anger set in rapidly. She spoke so gently and positively about the road ahead, that by the time we left, we were calm and discussing our next game plan.
We never ever had such a wonderful nurse like Ms. Koral at HFM. She's extremely special. She is one of a kind, she has our highest regards. She took her oath seriously. We never got to personally thank her for all she truly has done. So, we nominate her for this DAISY Award. She deserves it!
She's our "Little breath of Fresh Air" and she truly comforts a person's soul. Thank you.
