We had the care of Koni on two different occasions. First was a scheduled trip to Labor and Delivery for an attempt to turn our baby from the breach position. Throughout the whole process, Koni was absolutely wonderful and kept us well informed as to what was to happen, as well as providing outstanding care to my wife. When it came time to go through the procedure, Koni was there with us the whole time. She continued to provide outstanding care as well as comforting my wife as the uncomfortable procedure proceeded. As I held my wife's hand, Koni took hold of her other hand and comforted her through the procedure. At that moment, Koni become more than just a nurse, she became a figure of comfort, and, more importantly, she felt like a part of our family.
After the procedure wrapped up, she continued to provide outstanding care as my wife recovered and provided us with clear information as to what would be our next steps in the process of having our baby. We planned a C-section for the following Monday and left triage to head for home. Little did we know, we were in for a big surprise.
The next morning my wife had an extreme headache and high blood pressure. We headed for the hospital and when we arrived in Labor and Delivery, Koni was there again. Thankfully, having a bit of background with our situation already, she took charge of us. She, again, provided an outstanding level of care to my wife and me as we prepared to deliver our baby. Koni kept comforting my wife through her pains and as the situation worsened, she grabbed the doctor promptly to provide quick care for my wife. Even with a department full of laboring moms, Koni kept her sole focus on my wife, making sure she was well cared for while gathering the appropriate staff and working as team to prep for my wife's operation.
When we left for the OR and continued with the birth of our baby, we didn't get to see Koni again. I only wish we could thank her again for her amazing care that she provided to us through those tough few hours. Throughout the rest or our stay at the Sanford USD Medical Center, we received wonderful care from a number of other nurses and care providers, but none quite matched up the loving care and affection that Koni provided us.
She provided care above and beyond her call of duty and made our baby's birth a comfortable and wonderful experience. She was simply amazing and provided a standard of care that one could only dream of. She clearly exemplified Sanford Health's vision and true standard of care.
