My husband is 81 and has dementia. We were admitted to A&E at 4:30 pm and discharged at 3:30 am after having an infusion.
The following day, we arrived at ACC at about 1:30 pm where we first met Kirsty. She was so sympathetic and managed to find my husband somewhere to lie down to have a 6.5hr infusion as he was exhausted. We went to the department the following day for another infusion and nothing was too much trouble for Kirsty. Again, she found somewhere for him to lie down. He had three more infusions that week. Several times I had phoned Kirsty for advice as my husband's condition deteriorated in spite of the treatment and at all times she went above and beyond the call of duty to offer practical help and advice. It never mattered how busy she was or how full the clinic was, she always found time for me.
Finally, a month later, I phoned her feeling absolutely desperate not knowing who to turn to and she advised me to take my husband to A&E - he was admitted to Hawthorn Ward for 5 nights and on every single day, Kirsty found time to go and visit him, although I am not sure he always knew who she was. It's a long walk from ACC to Hawthorn Ward and her visits were very much appreciated by me. She is an exceptional person who was an enormous tower of strength during a very difficult time.
I would also add that Kirsty came and sought us out while we were in A&E - she is exceptional.
