Kirsten called in on her day off and asked me to check on a patient she had treated in the ER who was admitted on the floor. She knew the patient was alone, scared, and without family. Kirsten promised the patient she would check on her, but was not at work and wanted me to let the patient know she was thinking of her. When I told the patient her ER nurse wanted to let her know she was thinking of her, and wanted to check on her, she began to cry.

The patient stated nurses like Kirsten who truly are invested in their jobs, and are caring and compassionate make all the difference to patients like her who are scared and alone. She appreciated the gentle and caring manner in which Kirsten attended to her needs in the ER. She was so thankful for the follow up that she was crying with gratitude and referred to Kirsten as her "front line Angel".

Kirsten has a loving and compassionate heart, and made a huge impact with a simple genuine gesture.
