In the NICU we provide primary nursing care. Kimberly's recent primary baby had a rough start. She was born way too early and way too small, but she was a fighter. Each of Kimberly's shifts with this baby was draining both emotionally and mentally with making sure this tiny person was okay and Kimberly's care and assessments were optimal. The family also bonded with Kimberly during her care of their baby.
Right after the New Year, the baby's mom was sick and couldn't visit for several days. Kimberly took time out of her busy day to make a "get well" card to Mommy from Baby. She took footprints and printed out a picture for the card.
The baby was with us for a few more weeks until she needed to be transferred to another facility for laser eye surgery. This transfer was devastating to all of us since we had all seen this peanut grow from one pound to over five pounds in three months!
Kimberly has personally kept in touch with this mom and keeps up on the baby's status. She has also made a long road trip (2.5 hours one way) to visit this baby and her parents.
Kimberly's care of this precious baby is admirable and a great example of family-centered care.
