Kimberly was caring for an 18 year old patient that had been admitted for a sickle cell crisis. She had been taking care of this patient for several days in a row. During that time they had built a rapport together and had discussed many things that were going on in their lives.
The patient didn't have a lot of family around and the only support system she had was her boyfriend. He would come and visit from time to time but eventually they got in an argument and he stopped coming to see her. Kimberly knew that the relationship between the patient and her boyfriend had been stressed over this hospital stay. Kimberly saw that the patient was upset. When she talked with the patient she discovered that she had been wanting Long John Silvers for three days and her boyfriend was going to bring it but didn't.
After working all night, Kimberly went to Long John Silvers that afternoon and bought the patient a shrimp dinner. She then brought it back up the patient. It truly made an impact with this patient and helped to brighten her day. Kimberly is disserving of this DAISY because she took time to provide extra special care for this patient and did it without any expectation of formal recognition.
