I have had chronic pancreatitis for a couple years and the pain is sometimes unbearable. Unfortunately, I wasn't very nice to many people as a result, but there was one nurse that stood out to me. Kiersten just kept smiling and being polite while I was nothing shy of a jerk. I felt so bad and ended up apologizing to many of the staff. Every day Kiersten would walk in with a smile and listen to my boring stories. I noticed that while we would chat, it would take my mind off of being in the hospital. Ultimately, it took my mind away from the pain.
Kiersten went above and beyond every single day. Another example of her kindness that I greatly appreciated was when I finally was able to eat, but I did not like the options. Kiersten ordered me something I liked. Any time I hit the call light she was there right away. I can't describe how much that meant to me. She kept my pain under control and even when it was too soon for my medications she would get me a warm blanket and anything else she could to make me comfortable. Kiersten truly made me feel better. I am a long way from home and somehow she made me feel right at home. So much that I asked if there was a way I could show my appreciation. Thankfully there was this award. She definitely went above and beyond her duties. It's been rough being sick but I can confidently say if I ever need emergency care that I will be choosing Saint Francis Hospital Muskogee.
Note: This is Kiersten's 2nd DAISY Award!
