Kelsey did an extraordinary job caring for my father last week. He was admitted with a stroke and had Kelsey as his nurse at night. By this point, he had three other RNs, two neurologists, speech, OT, PT, and a variety of other services care for him. It wasn't until Kelsey came into the room that we saw the stroke booklet. She immediately asked for it and when it wasn't there, she immediately went and got it. Then, she explained in detail each page to my parents. Next, she was doing his neuro assessment and asked for the papers where he describes each image. Again, this had never been done, so she goes out of the room again and brings it in with a smile, going through each page. Also, she was the first nurse to complete the patient communication board in full detail.
Two weeks later, I could not contain the relief on my face (and most of all, on my parents' faces) when my dad returned with another possible stroke and Kelsey was his nurse again. Kelsey admitted him and decorated the board for his birthday, remembered details about him and from his last visit, and listened to him talk about vintage cars with an interested look on her face (even after she already told him she didn't really like cars). She answered our numerous questions and even made sure my mom had everything listed in her notebook for the hospitalist since she couldn't talk him into coming in while my sister and I were still there. Kelsey was Excellent!
