I feel Kelly is an extraordinary nurse! A role model.
Our Type 1 diabetes parents say, "Kelly was phenomenal". That was extremely informative and helpful." "We love our educator." "Wonderful instructor." The school lead nurse states, "... felt reassured and confident to care for our diabetic student properly now!
I receive these types of comments from families in regard to Kelly all the time! Our families and patients recognize that Kelly is special. But our team does too.
I know it is our job as educators to be supportive and helpful. But Kelly takes it to the next step.
Kelly goes above and beyond:
Kelly is a certified diabetes educator - meaning she is a qualified expert in diabetes.
She sees the value and importance of this work because she knows firsthand the challenge of diabetes - but she demonstrates hope and success. She was a Children's patient - she knows.
Fighting diabetes starts with three special nurses meet three young women who have managed their diabetes since childhood and are now dedicating their lives to helping families deal with diabetes.
Kelly comes to work every day with a positive attitude, knowing she will make a difference in the life of a child and his/her family.
Kelly also represents autonomy. Kelly takes control. She sees the greater goal: return our families safely to home and community.
Kelly thinks outside of the box and is always finding new ways to teach and share diabetes awareness in the community.
Kelly is our community liaison, our school, and daycare liaison. This was her choice, her desire. She is self-creating this position. She sees the need. She does the work, or I should say she makes it work!
Kelly is in the schools and daycares. She is a Bright from the Start Early Learning trainer - not a required certification. She works days, evenings, weekends to make sure a child returns to school or daycare safety.
She volunteers at the Transition Clinic 1 day a month because sees the need to support our teens, our future young adults.
She is taking on the Lead for Diabetes Family Advisory council.
She supports our Family Ambassador program, knowing our families need support in their own community!
She has developed an annual Taking Diabetes to College event - she noticed this gap in our provided education. She spoke up and took action and now we have a successful program/resource for our patients.
She is a volunteer at Camp Kudzu and a JDRF volunteer. She recognizes that our kids are healthy kids and they need to continue to be kids!!
She is also part of the JDRF Young Leadership Committee, a group of young professionals dedicated to bringing awareness of type 1 diabetes.
Kelly represents a commitment to superior work. She is a team player. Kelly is always making our team better. She is a leader in the community educator role but she continues to be instrumental in keeping our inpatient program going as well.
I would love to use the DAISY Award platform to say thank you to Kelly. You make a difference to your patients, families, and coworkers. Thank you from all of Diabetes Services.
