We came in late October through the ER. What I thought would be a quick trip to get fluid turned out to be a very hard day and night, and 44 days later we are still in the PICU. Kelli came in that night and stepped right into a role as my son's nurse. The PICU team got him at 4 pm and we didn't get to see him until midnight. After that, my son was totally different, but Kelli walked us through everything. We have been through hospital stays before, but this one seemed different. When we first walked into his room after waiting for 7 hours I remember seeing all the many things hooked up to him. At that moment I realized just how sick he was. I was crying, and I remember a sweet voice started talking to me. Kelli started telling me what was going on with my boy, explaining everything in detail. She made sure he was taken care of and she took care of our family, too. The first night, Kelli didn't leave his bedside. She didn't worry about herself, it was like she was taking care of her own son. She knew when I needed a hug. The next few nights Kelli was our nurse, and even through the day, she checked on him. I loved the way she adjusted his leg pumps to make them just right. The little things really mean a lot when you are in the PICU for so long.
We are getting better and have a long road ahead. We have a different room, but Kelli comes in with a hug to see what we need and will always be a part of our family. Kelli is a wonderful person and nurse. I thank her for everything and will never know how to repay her. We love Kelli!
This is Kelli's 2nd DAISY Award!
