In our new building, I am fortunate to work with Kelley during the night shift. Whenever she is in charge, we nurses feel like we have a comfort blanket on us. The teaching that Kelley has provided to many nurses has allowed some of these nurses to progress in their profession. There are nurses who became expert IV starters, nurses who problem solve with confidence, and even a nurse with 3 1/2 years' experience become an RN III. Her qualities of Respect were truly demonstrated.
I will never forget that night when I was assigned a patient who, towards the end of the day shift, coded and passed away. The patient's family was in the room when I entered and the family members were upset and angry, and wanted to file a lawsuit, citing that the staff was the reason for the death. Kelley immediately came to the patient's room and spoke with the family and carefully listened with empathetic attitude. When I went back into the room, the family members apologized for their behavior and said "Now we are leaving, do your job. It is God's wish. She is in peace." That is how Kelley approached all of her patients, family members, and any visitors. She showed Compassion towards me and the family members of the deceased patient.
Kelley is very friendly with nurses, jokes with them, and on many occasions, provides lunch. Kelley always has a nurturing attitude. She firmly believes in Stewardship.
She is always focused on ensuring patient safety while delivering compassionate care. Placing patient safety at the forefront in everything that she does each day is what Kelley stands for. Kelley is born with a special gift of caregiving and through this gift she makes our unit and Parkland a better place for healing patients.
Kelley is recognized for exhibiting dedication, technical and customer service skills, professionalism, and a genuine desire to contribute to the success of Parkland.
