Kay Troxell has been a shining example of all the reasons that I am proud and grateful to be a member of the Children's Hospital Colorado team, and I constantly look to Kay for guidance and inspiration for my own practice. Kay is completely committed to the kids we work with in Medical Day Treatment, and not only provides outstanding family centered care in a compassionate and empathetic environment, but she also guides the nursing team toward the same caring service as our clinical coordinator. Kay ensures that the nursing team is a vital and contributory part of the interdisciplinary team that works with all our kids and their families. She takes the time to become fully integrated with each and every patient and family so that she and the rest of the unit are constantly up to date on treatment goals and planning for all patients. Kay's positive attitude is something I look forward to every shift I work, and it's hard not to be 'infected' by Kay's smile every day. As a newer member of the MDT team, Kay has really gone out of her way to make sure I have been made to feel welcome in a very small and tight knit team, and while I am thrilled to be a part of CHCO, Kay has made me even happier to be a member of MDT. I can't think of a better representative of Children's Hospital Colorado than Kay Troxell.

Kay qualifies as an extraordinary nurse in many areas. The area I would like to focus on is her vision to improve care and outcomes for our patients at Medical Day Treatment. Though our years at MDT we have been through many evolutions of programming. Kay has been a leader in the evolution of MDT by envisioning and helping create a program that integrates Educational, Psychological and Medical components to help provide the best integrated and individualized care for our chronically ill patients. She has modeled openness to both new and ongoing ideas as innovations evolved from when evidenced based practice were presented to our team. She has encouraged and helped other staff(including me) to embrace change. With her help and leadership we have improved parent participation in our program and improved team communication. I feel the changes made will lead to shorter patient stays and higher patient and parent satisfaction. I look forward to an exciting future at MDT with Kay as clinical coordinator!
