We had a young mother from Florida here with her infant. She was driving on her way to a funeral when her baby became very ill while driving in Memphis. The mother brought him here to LeBonheur. The child spent some time in ICU and then was transferred to 5 West. Katrina took care of the baby during her night weekend shift. She became concerned that the mother was so far from home with little money. She put herself in the family’s shoes. What if that was my daughter and grandchild? On her way to work, she stopped at the store and bought fruit, TV dinners, bread, cold cuts, etc. for the mother to eat. The mother could not thank her enough. With tears in her eyes, she told Katrina, “Those were the best grapes I have ever tasted!” During her stay, Katrina made sure she had everything she needed after discharge. The mother sent Katrina a package from Florida. It was a thank you card with a bracelet in the envelope. Katrina has a gift of taking people who are truly in need under her wing and caring for them. She is a true nurturer and that is one of the best qualities a nurse (or anyone) could have.
