Dear Katie,
Thank you for the extraordinary care you provided our family during an extremely difficult experience. My uncle was critically ill and you were his nurse the first night there. At the beginning of the shift, you gave our whole family an update on his status that was so well explained with details and very knowledgeable. My aunt was so confident in you that she agreed for the first time in four days to leave and go home for a shower and some rest.
From the beginning, you were so obviously skillful, smart and caring. Later that night, my uncle's condition declined and you kept us updated at appropriate intervals and called everyone back to the hospital when it was the right time. The decision was made to withdraw care and I was impressed with how you transitioned our family and informed us in what to expect. You easily switched to caring for the whole family. When my uncle passed away you reached across and placed your hand on my aunt's cheek to tell her he was gone. I will never forget that moment and the compassion you showed. Thank you so much for that and for your service to patients and their families every day.
