Over the past weekend, Katie was caring for a homeless patient who had lost his cell phone. This was the patient's one and only possession that truly meant anything to him because it connected him to others.
The patient was quite distraught over losing his cell phone, but Katie could tell there was more adding to the patient's stress. After sitting down and talking with him more, she found out that he wanted to get ahold of his pastor. Because of the patient's medical condition, he was quite forgetful and could not remember the name of his pastor or the church he attended. Katie knew how important it was to help him connect with his pastor and was going to do all she could to connect them.
Katie brought her computer into the patient's room and asked the patient several questions about the location of this church. As the patient was talking, Katie had Google Maps pulled up on her computer and she was searching for churches near the locations he was mentioning. Katie spent well over an hour if her time trying to locate the church and the patient's pastor to help comfort the patient. After a lot of questioning, they were able to locate the church on the map and found a phone number so the patient could connect with his pastor.
Because Katie took the time to listen to the patient's concerns, she was able to connect him with someone very special. This is just one example of how Katie takes the time to truly get to know her patients on a deeper level. She delivers remarkable care!
