Recently I was a patient on 3South for 6 days/5 nights due to complications with Multiple Sclerosis and an infection which caused severe back pain and a complete loss of mobility. There was a great deal of uncertainty about my condition as tests were done and interpreted and various doctors consulted about the best course of action. When the situation was tense, Katie Brockhouse, the nurse who was helping me, stepped in and advocated for me and my family and we felt she went out of her way to make sure our options were explained and our choices respected. She kept us informed and made sure to relay our concerns to the appropriate people and see that issues were solved with our concerns being the priority. She was professional in her dealings with us. Katie took care of the problem for us and relieved a great deal of stress for me and my family. All of this was in addition to providing me with the basic, professional care one would expect to receive and we all felt she definitely went out of her way as an advocate for us as well as for the hospital.
