Kathleen sets a beautiful example of how to care for patients during a difficult time. She is a gracious support person during preterm labor, emergencies, fetal demises and many other difficult situations. She calmly and delicately explains what is happening to patients and family members, bringing them some level of relief and building trust. For example, Kathleen was able to provide support during exams and throughout labor for a patient with a long history of abuse. This made a big difference. With Kathleen’s support, instead of being frightened, the patient felt in control and empowered. Her birth experience became a positive, beautiful memory because of Kathleen’s tender care. I will take this memory with me as I begin my career as a nurse and will be able to better care for my patients because of Kathleen’s example.
