My father went to Lankenau ER on Tuesday for a few issues and was admitted. On Wednesday, my father was moved rather emergently to CICU. Within hours, my father had to be sedated and put on a ventilator emergently. Kathy was his nurse on Wednesday from 3:30 - 11:30 pm.
Kathy was amazing! She seemed to be in and out of my father's room every few minutes, always seeming to be one step ahead of everything, knowing exactly what my father needed and when he needed it. Of course, I know that is a nurses' training.
Kathy stood in my father's room with the rapid response the whole time. She gave my Mom a hug when I wasn't there to comfort her. Kathy spoke to my father at every step, everything she did for him she informed him of what she was doing even though he was sedated and on the ventilator, and I assume not able to understand what was going on. She spoke to him in a gentle voice and said everything step by step to him of what she was doing.
I feel that anyone who wants to be a nurse, can, if they are willing to go to school and work hard, however, I do not think that just anyone can have the compassion and knowledge to help both the patient and family through difficult times. I feel that Kathy went to nursing school because she wanted to genuinely help people, and it truly shows in her care.
