Kitty has worked at BJH for over 40 years. In that time, she has precepted and mentored hundreds of new nurses. Each day she comes to work as a nurse preceptor, she is given the most challenging assignments. While some nurses may be overwhelmed with the task of caring for high acuity patients, Kitty assumes additional responsibility of that care plus teaching a new nurse.
Kitty encourages and coaches new nurses about pathophysiology, pharmacology, equipment, central lines, arteria\lines, and the management and advancement of patient care. She is never overwhelmed or flustered because this is what she does. Kitty epitomizes all that is good about nursing care. She teaches about evidence-based practice, holds the hand of a dying patient, and eases the anxious new nurse.
She has weathered many changes over the decades at BJH, but her commitment to patient care has never wavered. She is a member of several committees including the Unit Practice Committee, Policy & Procedure Committee, and an Epic Super User Committee member. There will never be another Kitty, however, the hundreds of nurses trained under her experienced watch are her legacy.
