I met Kathy while taking my mother to her radiation treatment for breast cancer. Six months later I was diagnosed with colon cancer. Now my mother is taking care of me! Kathy has been there for me so many times. The first time I had questions about mammogram test results and I didn't understand them. I brought them to Kathy, she explained everything in a way I could understand. I cannot put into words how much better I felt after talking with her. She did not have to do that for me, I wasn't even a patient yet. One thing stands out above the rest. After my colonoscopy, I found out that I had 2 types of cancer. How someone can tell you so casually that you have this life-threatening disease with no details is beyond me. Again, Kathy came to my aide. She and Dr. Y explained what was going on. My chemo doctor kept ordering test after test. A full 2 months later I was still waiting for another test, but everything seemed to be on hold. In the meantime my nerves and stress level had me breaking out with cold sores, I was just a mess. I told Kathy about the problems I was having, not only did she calm me down, she went above and beyond. She personally got on the phone with my insurance, to the doctors where my test was supposed to be scheduled. Honestly, I don't know who all she had to talk to, but I know she made it happen. I started treatment the next week. Kathy was not obligated to do any of that for me. I think it takes a special person to be a nurse and she is definitely special. I have 2 weeks down, 4 to go! And whenever she sees me come in she has a smile for me and is ready to answer any and all questions. Kathy is a patient and caring person and I only wish I had resources to do more.
