Katherine is an exceptional nurse at Amita Health Resurrection Medical Center. I have worked with her for a couple of years and have always had a positive experience working with her. She has always been a good listener and a caring nurse for her patients. This was specifically exemplified two months ago on a night shift. I came to 3NW at 7 pm. Katherine informed me about a patient that she was worried about that had come from the emergency room earlier in the day. The patient was having increased pain and Katherine was unable to doppler any pulses. Katherine was adamant that the patient must be seen right away. We evaluated the patient together. Katherine helped me to take care of the patient's need for pain control. She helped me obtain more history while I was evaluating the patient. I ended up consulting with cardiovascular surgery. The patient was transferred to ICU. The patient had emergent surgery a couple of hours later to resolve a blood clot in her leg. Katherine's clinical skills and prompt notification made the process run smoothly for me and most importantly our patient.
Another significant point was that although Katherine's shift was over, she stayed on throughout the entire process. She never mentioned that her shift had ended. Katherine did a great job of caring for her patient. As always, she was an exemplary nurse that night. It is a pleasure working with Katherine. I know her patients would agree!

As Katherine's manager, I would like to add that she is an exemplary asset to the 3NW team. Since my arrival, we have hired many new nurses. Katherine has literally been precepting non-stop for more than a year. Even though the preceptor role is challenging, she has never complained. Katherine provides support, encouragement, and fosters independent practice and critical thinking for new grads to experienced nurses. She has been doing all of this while learning the charge nurse role. Katherine is positive, engaged, and supportive of her team and patients!
