“Karen Chan has been the surgical admission nurse on the two occasions I have required surgery or an invasive procedure. Both times my anxiety was reduced by Karen’s high level of professionalism and the empathy and caring she demonstrated. I have observed Karen interacting with multiple patients. In all cases Karen sits at eye level with the patient, completes the assessment, and explains what will happen next. Both times Karen made me feel like I was the only patient in the room. It appeared Karen’s other patients felt that way too. Over my long career in health care I have had the opportunity to observe hundreds of health care workers.
