Kam is the ACM on the day shift on 6 South. Kam has consistently demonstrated excellent clinical skills, responding in all rapid responses and Code Blues on our unit during her shift. She is a respected resource that the nursing staff relies on during patient crisis. Kam works closely with our LVAD patients. One patient in particular was having difficulty adjusting to the LVAD. Kam took the time to listen to his frustrations demonstrating empathy and compassion. This patient recognized Kam on the Patient Satisfaction Survey sent to his home as the "highlight of his day". Another patient said his body cream was missing (Eucerin) Kam went to Target and purchased some for him prior to his discharge. Kam is always promoting patient satisfaction and assures the little things such as hot coffee, extra condiments, goes to cafeteria to purchase items missing from tray time is short and the patient is going to therapy. Kam is always looking at ways to improve patient care with evidence based practices such as blood sugars and insulin’s being drawn and given at the right times. She answers lights and takes the extra steps to promote patient satisfaction. Kam listens not only to patients but to staff when dealing with difficult patients, offering tips and talking to the patients herself. Kam is an advocate for our patients ensuring they get to therapy on time, working with the coordinators of therapy so that schedules meet the needs of the patient from a nursing perspective i.e. patient's tolerance, personal needs prior to attending therapy. Kam recognizes the staff with treats such as candy when they are busy and tells them how much she appreciates them by giving the treat.
NOTE: Kam received two nominations this quarter; the second is below:
Kam always does above and beyond what is expected of her. She repeatedly stays after her shift and helps out other nurses. She never leaves anything hanging in the air and she is very thorough. She is very in tune to all the patients in the unit and to what they need. She is an exceptional nurse. I could only hope that if I were ever in the hospital that I would have a nurse like her. She never acts put out or like it's of any trouble to her. She is always happy with her patients. She is fair with her staff as well. I can't say enough good things about her. She really is the epitome of what a nurse should be.
