Kaitlyn was driving home after a 12-hour shift as charge nurse and while she was stopped at a stoplight she witnessed a car accident. She didn't hesitate to offer her help. She helped a young girl who was driving one of the involved vehicles. The girl did not appear hurt but she was very upset to the point of crying profusely. The car was smoking and the engine was still running, so after Kaitlyn saw that she was able to move and did not appear to be injured, she helped her away from the car to a safe place. She stayed with the patient, helped her call her parents and provided reassurance until the emergency team arrived. Even though Kaitlyn admits she is not a big hugger, she was with the girl and allowed her to lay in her lap and cry.
This is just a big example of the caring, compassionate person Kaitlyn is every day. She always looks at the big picture and helps in whatever way she can. I'm sure even if this girl never got her name, she will always remember the kind nurse who helped her that night.
