Kaci has been our day shift nurse for days. My son is 6 years old and he has autism. He came in with a severe bowel impaction all the way to his little heart. She has gone above and beyond what any nurse is expected. Any time I'm changing him and she comes in, she jumps straight in to help me scrub poop off. (insane amounts of poop y'all). She's helped change bedding. Helped clean the floor. Ran in our room a thousand times for our endless supplies we've needed. Hunted down diapers when pull-ups weren't cutting it. Comforted my baby while he cried. Held his hand. Explained everything to him. Comforted him through all of the enemas. She took him to the treasure box for being so brave. She encouraged him during his NG tube. She has been the most amazing, sweet, kind, compassionate nurse I have ever encountered in my entire life. I cannot say enough great things about her. I know it's the job. I know there are a lot of great nurses in the world but she is literally the best. I've had my fair share of hospital stays. We have a micro-preemie daughter with CHD. I've had 7 abdominal surgeries in 5 years. I PROMISE there has never been a sweeter, kinder, more compassionate nurse EVER. She deserves this. She has been rocking through this for 3 12 hour shifts with us and even when she's run ragged, she greets us with a smile and has never complained. She even comforted me when I freaked out and thought maybe his appendix was bad. Turned out I was a worried mom, just tons of gas and cramps from impaction. She never made me feel belittled or like I was overreacting. My son is tough but this has been SO HARD! She has rocked every bit of it like a champ. I feel like I would have legit cried by now several times if not for her. She has brought endless hot packs, given every suggestion in the world to help our dude and sympathized more than anyone should. I am beyond grateful for her. Our hospital stay is far from over but we are so blessed to have had her for this long!
