My husband was admitted to the ICU for the flu and acute respiratory distress syndrome. I am a nurse. I work on the DAISY Committee at my hospital, so I know the parameters of a DAISY Award. The nominated nurse must go "above and beyond" for her patients. Just doing your job is not good enough to win the DAISY Award.
Juvy was precepting a new nurse at the time she was caring for my husband, but she still provided him with exceptional care. She did not overlook me- the wife. Each day she came and assessed me visually and psychosocially. She empowered me as a fellow nurse. Juvy never slacked on her job. She made sure to ask if I had been able to eat or drink anything.
One time she split her soda with me, just to make sure I was okay. Jucy measured up her team every day and kept us informed of the plan of care. She did more than her job required each day. She empowered me as a nurse and as a wife. She often reminded me that I needed to take care of myself first. She made sure that I stayed well hydrated. I think she is an angel disguised as a nurse.
In my opinion, Juvy dug deeper than the other nurses. She is strong and selfless. I never even noticed that she had another patient because she was so attentive to me and my husband. I never saw her take a lunch, even though I am sure she did. Juvy anticipated our needs and went above and beyond. The rapport she had with her colleagues of all departments is proof of the respect she has earned for providing excellent care. I have been hospitalized 3 times, but I have never met a nurse like Juvy! When Juvy took report on my husband, we knew that we had the best nurse! Thank you Juvy, for sharing your soda and your love! We will never forget you!
