Justice anticipated the deterioration of the patient status, listening to the patient's concerns of "not feeling right" even before it was manifested in his vital signs. She called a rapid response when the patient became tachycardic and stabilized the patient with the help of the team.
Later, the patient was not well yet and Justice advocated in the favor of the patient to the medical team. The medical team insisted that the likelihood of a P.E. was minimal since the patient was on Lovenox. However, Justice insisted that a BP of 200/100 and elevated HR could not be dismissed as just a post-op complication due to not taking his meds the day of the surgery.
Justice called another rapid response in the afternoon and insisted that the patient was not stable enough to stay on the floor. The patient received further work-up and was later diagnosed with a P.E. and transferred to the ICU. Justice was pro-active and used her clinical expertise and compassion to care for the patient and save his life.
