June is a fellow WOC nurse. She currently manages our hospital acquired pressure ulcer data collection project. She reports data to managers, staff and administration. June takes every pressure ulcer that occurs here personally and looks for ways to prevent future skin breakdown for all patients across the system. At the same time, she looks for ways to convey information to staff that doesn't make them feel bad about their care... she strives to build them up rather than tear them down.
June will go out of her way for any patient or staff member in need. If that means staying a bit longer at the bedside and quietly talking to a patient, that's what she does. It doesn't matter how busy she is, they never know. They only know she cares. June always strives to make wound care as painless as possible. She works with all members of the healthcare team to try and meet emotional as well as physical needs for the patient. She isn't shy about asking for meds to reduce anxiety or for assistance from alternative therapies to help patients cope with changes in body image, scary diagnoses and painful procedures. Repeat patients always ask about June... "where is June?" I've been stopped at the grocery store by former patients who ask about June. They all love her and with good reason.
When healing is not possible, June works hard to help develop a plan of care that will palliate the symptoms and help the patient/family meet their own goals. I've also seen June reach out a helping hand to other staff members who were having a hard day. She sees the big picture around her.
June is always eager to learn. She looks for ways to stretch herself. Currently, she has enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to work with the MAHEC OB doctors to begin a joint research project to help improve outcomes for obese C-Section patients.
If June doesn't understand the physiology of a wound, she takes it upon herself to get more information to insure that the nursing treatment program is appropriate. She doesn't hesitate to call a physician and ask for more information while formulating a plan of care. Her ego is never involved... she is interested in input from other team members with the ultimate goal of getting the best possible treatment for the patient. She is always willing to lend a helping hand and consistently demonstrates MERIT behavior within our team. If one of us needs her assistance, she takes the time to help us think through complex problems and is always supportive. If there were ever a nurse that deserved a DAISY Award, that nurse would be June Case. I'm proud to work with her and would let her take care of me or one of my loved ones any day. Having been a nurse for longer than I care to admit, I've rarely encountered a nurse with so much compassion for others and passion for her work. June is a talented healer with a humble heart who truly deserves recognition.

June Case has been a key person in this hospitals quest for Zero Hospital Acquired Pressure Ulcers. She has implemented strategies and performance improvement models that have shaped the way we care for our patients. These measures have consistently improved the quality of care we are giving and our patients are benefiting from, in our quest for zero pressure ulcers. As a result of June's diligent and hard work, this goal is now within our reach. She exemplifies the true spirit in her endeavors of patient care that "all for one patient will become one for all patients".
