Recognizing a nurse who has been nominated for the DAISY Award by a grateful patient is an honor. An even greater privilege is to acknowledge a nurse who has been nominated by a patient who is also a nursing colleague, especially one by with over 30 years of practice in the profession! Jumyr Kangleon, RN, BSN is receiving the DAISY Award for her compassionate post-operative care of a fellow nurse. In the words of this patient/colleague, “Jumyr anticipated my every need, kindly suggesting ways to increase my comfort. She helped me to feel loved and safe.” This single statement describes the epitome of Scripps Mercy’s patient care.
Jumyr was a licensed vocational nurse who returned to school to become a registered nurse (RN). She launched her career as a new graduate in 1999 on the 9th floor at Scripps Mercy (then an orthopedic unit). She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) from San Diego State University.
Now in the Ambulatory Surgery Post Anesthesia Care Unit at Scripps Mercy Hospital, her fellow nurses hold Jumyr in high regard. She is respected for being a hard working and caring nurse with patients who acknowledge her on a routine basis. She is a clinical leader, recently stepping up to serve as a charge nurse within the ASC PACU.
Jumyr is flexible and willing to assist staff from other units with their daily staffing needs. Her nurse manager reports, “I have always been impressed by Jumyr’s enthusiasm and ability to excel in nursing knowledge and patient satisfaction.”
