My husband, R, was admitted through the ER to WFHC fourth floor because of chest pain and disorientation. He had suffered a stroke 10 months ago affecting his right side and speech. Julie was his nurse when he arrived on the fourth floor. From the moment she met us, we were impressed with her knowledge and caring attitude but what made her extraordinary was a series of incidents that occurred the next day.
R had gone through a battery of tests to determine the cause of his problems. All tests were negative. The final one occurred on Sunday and was a stress test. If the test was negative, we were assured he would be discharged. Julie told us that some of the stress test results were written on his chart but that there was still one component of the test that needed to be interpreted by a cardiologist. We waited all day for the results. Julie was tenacious in trying to contact the appropriate physician(s) but a variety of circumstances prevented her from being able to get this information - including overcoming a computer glitch. She kept us informed and I believe she did everything she possibly could do to help us understand what was going on.
Finally, she had to tell us that he would not be discharged until the next day. We were obviously upset. She was so professional and caring in her approach to us and took responsibility even though I don't think it was her fault - or anyone's for that matter. She treated us as if we were the only patient/family she was caring for even though I know she was very busy with other patients.
