Labor and Delivery can be an extremely unpredictable unit, much like the ER. We can go from one patient to nine patients in less than an hour, often with very little warning at all. We never turn away a patient, and often their care can escalate extremely rapidly from standard to emergency, forcing us to lean heavily on our teammates for assistance. Julie is an integral part of that team. She is always available to provide support to our unit in whatever way she can. She never hesitates to roll up her sleeves and jump in, taking calls, finding staff, assisting with patient care, and working with our providers.
Off the unit, Julie is always approachable and welcoming. She invites feedback and suggestions about how workflow could be improved and then works diligently to find answers or empowers staff to take on problem-solving projects on their own. She's both encouraging and inspiring.
