My daughter, L was recently a patient of Julia's on Rowan Ward. My daughter is 24 years old and has Down Syndrome.
On all previous hospitalisations, I have not felt comfortable leaving L in the care of the ward staff as I was concerned that if she needed anything she would not ask for help.
Julia was amazing with L, she treated her like an adult but at the same time recognising that she is not like other adults. She went out of her way to be there for L, night shift or day shift; she made her laugh, she encouraged her, offered help without automatically acting as though L was totally incapable.
L was there for 8 days and it was soon very obvious that Julia went out of her way for all her patients, treating them all as individuals, never seeming to be flustered, aggravated or that she would rather have been somewhere else. She truly is the nurse that all patients should have!
I had such complete faith in Julia that I actually felt comfortable leaving for short periods knowing that L was in such good and caring hands.
I cannot thank Julia enough for all the care and attention she showed L and I hope that should L ever need to be hospitalised again she will be lucky enough to be under Julia's care.
