Jules was taking care of a patient and on her second day with the patient, she noticed a change in the patient's mental status. She notified the resident who came to see the patient. Later that morning she noticed a facial droop and increased confusion and was concerned for a stroke and called the Rapid Response Team. When the Rapid Response Team arrived, Jules brought up patient's labs and zero urine output, and after an examination was negative the team left. Jules continued to be concerned, spending all of her time in the room, called the resident again and requested a higher level of care.
While waiting for a bed to be assigned, Jules called the Rapid Response Team again later in the afternoon concerned that the patient was deteriorating quickly. She said she had a gut feeling all day that something was not right. Jules stayed with the patient, continued to give support to the family, and finally, the patient was transferred to ICU. She was later intubated, received multiple units of blood and was in septic shock.
I truly believe that Jules gave exceptional care and went above and beyond to try and save her patient's life. She stayed calm throughout all of it, went with her gut feeling, pushed the doctors, and fought for her patient.
Jules showed compassionate care to both the patient and her family. One of the daughters couldn't say enough kind words to me regarding Jules' attentive care, concern, empathy and as she described her "absolutely amazing". I felt very proud to work alongside of Jules and I can't wait to see many more examples of her outstanding care in the future. Jules truly was the patient's advocate and she provided care that we would all want for ourselves and our loved ones.
