Judy was assigned as a nurse to a patient whose non-medical needs required a large time investment on the part of her caretakers. The patient was admitted for CHF exacerbation and had been hospitalized for a prolonged period. When Judy received her as a patient, she had already lost much of her excessive weight and continued to wear "bloomers" that were twice her size. The patient refused to use our disposable undergarments because she believed she was allergic to them. Judy took the time to carefully bathe the patient that day and even hand washed her undergarment and left them out to dry. She also took time to help this woman shave her growing facial hair. That night, Judy sent her son out to go and get better fitting undergarments. Judy brought them in the next day for this patient. I think everyone on the unit can agree that she went above and beyond the call of duty in terms of customer service. This patient was not an easy one to deal with and yet Judy treated her like family. I think she exemplifies extraordinary care for her patients. This is something that she does every day. I cannot think of anyone else who deserves this award more than Judy Haynes on 7 Ross.
