Judy has demonstrated exceptional dedication to service, compassion, intelligence, professionalism, and passion for bedside nursing during her nearly thirty years of clinical practice in General Pediatrics. The name of our unit, General Pediatrics, is misleading, as there is nothing general about the complex, technology dependent children, with complicated social and psychological issues, that are exacerbated by their chronicity.
Judy's skill as a pediatric oncology nurse, in addition to her talents and skill in caring for patients with orthopedic, asthma, as well as a variety of surgical issues, makes her a top performer in pediatric nursing. Not only is she a masterful clinician, she is a caring humanitarian. She will donate her time and energy to go above and beyond to ensure that each child she cares for feels loved and safe. Judy has been known to get down on her knees to sing to a frightened child to gain their trust so that they will voluntarily take their medication. I have personally witnessed Judy use her calming presence to soothe and redirect anxious and oftentimes aggressive parents towards peace and cooperation.
Words can't describe how blessed I feel to have led Judy in the past year. It is with confidence and great joy I submit her name for strong consideration for the prestigious DAISY Award.
